Who Needs Sleep?

Good questions, BNL (Barenaked Ladies, for you less informed folk out there). Who needs sleep?

I DO!

And I didn't get it last night.

I have no idea what the problem was. I got home from Junior High Connections around 7:00. I had spent the time after church practicing the guitar and reading (and I took maybe a tiny nap, no more than 15 minutes). So I obviously wasn't exerting myself but I wasn't sleep. I made myself dinner, watching a little Sam and Dean action on SPN (such a dark ep... was covering my eyes fro half of it) and then headed upstairs. I got ready for bed, watched the end of a Glee episode and was in bed by 10:45.

Insomnia.

It was wretched. I tried everything. I listened to an entire CD of Perelandra, which usually puts me to sleep pretty quickly (the only way I've been making my way through this book is on my walks). I took a decongestion pill to clear out my stuffy nose. I put on chapstick since my lips were brutally chapped. I got some water to keep my hydrated. I listened to half a disc of The Moon By Night, which also didn't put me to sleep. At 1:15 I got up and did some yoga, hoping it would tired me out.

I finally fell asleep no earlier than 2:30 am. Mind you, my alarm goes off at 5:45. I felt like I had just closed my eyes when the alarm buzzed. I reset it and tried to get back to sleep but it was just a repeat of the night before so instead of spending half an hour trying to fall back asleep only to have my alarm wake me up, I got up and went on a run.

I just finished school for the day and so far so good. I'm surprised I'm not a) more tired and b) more irritable. Part of me realllllly doesn't want to go to rehearsal though, so if this cold doesn't clear up, I may use that as an excuse and try to go to bed early and actually SLEEP this time (Nyquil maybe).

Ugh. I hate not sleeping.

  1. I'm so sorry! You sure the decongestant wasn't keeping you up? Hopefully tonight will be better. I know how awful insomnia is...
