I'm Back

Back in the country, back to my blog, back in action. These last few weeks (or week and a half, I guess) have been crazy busy. I've been seeing way too many people (although I love them all), getting hugged by junior high girls and boys, applying for jobs, watching World Cup matches, walks around the lake, long bike rides up to the Tustin Marketplace and to church and Bagel City and Starbucks, Pat and Oscars!, epic room cleanses, pool relaxation afternoons, Sonrise Island rehearsals and busy work and of course, trying to find some time to sleep!

Right now I'm in the throngs of Sonrise Island- recording tomorrow, figuring out who has t-shirts and who doesn't, figuring out set lists for each day and maing sure my seventy-five member band is all on stage at the same time (not an exaggeration). So since I don't have too much energy and I can't seem to find my camera cord (actually I can I just don't have too much to download right now), I will leave you with a video about the World Cup, thanks to Dirty Tackle (and just be glad I didn't show you the one of the German coach picking his nose and eating it- no joke).

It's in the post below since I wasn't sure if it was going to post properly. But it did, so just look at the post below. I don't know what's funnier, the action or the music in the background.

And the songs begin!

My favorite part of the Baddiel and Skinner podcasts from last WC were their songs (Owen Hargraves you old sod\are you just in the squad\cuz you know your way 'round Germany...and you know of a shop that sells Burberry....)

So far, we're 7 podcasts in and no songs (and no, the Kabanga song from Unplanned doesn't count!) But today's podcast, #8, we have a song! Now sadly I can't replicate the noise of the vuvuzela so just imagine that there's an elephant with a knot in its trunk in the studio trying to make a sound. And there you have the sound of a vuvuzela. Enjoy the lyrics.

I went to a World Cup football game, blowing on me vuvuzela
I blew till breathless I became, blowing on me vuvuzela
I couldn't breathe, I had to wheeze, I felt so faint and ill at ease
I was found with my head between my knees, blowing on my vuvuzela

Amazing.

Night out with the Girls

Last night I went out with the girls from the museum- Katie, Marsali and Tegan. We started out at The Chequers, then had dinner at Pizza Express and then finished off with another drink at the Duke of Blenheim. Such a fun night- lots of laughter, talking about co-workers at the museum, bantering with the bartender at the pub, wondering why on earth a pub was showing MLB and ESPN on their telly, especially during World Cup season. Of course, lots of wedding chat, as Katie is wedding planning, which is always fun, especially when stories about the in-laws and all the people that want to be invited to the wedding but will probably never be invited to the wedding begin. I have had such a good time getting to know these girls at the museum and I'm so bummed that I won't get to know them better- except through emails and facebook. They've made the long quiet shifts at the Musuem exciting! Thanks for such a great night, ladies! I'm going to miss you all so much!

newly married Marsali and newly engaged Katie!

me and Marsali- and for some reason, I don't feel like I look like myself. Weird.

A few road-trip pics from Kristen

My camera batteries ran out while we were at Land's End last weekend so Kristen had to take over momentarily. I got a copy of her pics and so here are some fun ones to enjoy as well.\

SOOO hungry in Newquay
Random keys on the ground at Newquay (pronounced New-key)

perfect shot of the bridge to my new house

Guess Roni's not tall enough- we should have none

I love this picture. I look so confused at life right now. Like a silly tourist.

Chez moi (or Chez nous)

So a lot of you have been asking where are the pictures of the house, seeing as that I've been promising them forever and never posting anything. So now, on my last day here, may I present A Walk Around My House- courtesy of my Macbook and Photobooth. Therefore the pics are kinda poor quality and are at weird angles. Just pretend I have you in my shirt pocket or something while taking you around the house.

When entering the house, the first thing you see after going down the hall is the kitchen. It's quite a lovely kitchen- and I love the checked floors. It always makes me think of the kitchen in Clue and the checked floors there. I really liked how the fridge had doors that looked like cupboards- at first I didn't know where the fridge was but turns out it just blends really well. I liked the window about the sink too- nice to people watch our neighbors while doing the dishes.
Then we head down the hall, past the stairs and get to the living room. That TV is not ours (see previous post- it's Neal's). It's a nice set up though, really comfy couches, lots of sun coming in on teh big windows/doors on a day like today and lots of "counter" space for pictures and frames.

The flag is not usually there :) It's still up from Saturday's match. Please enjoy Roni and Kim on the couch watching the Spain/Switzerland match. Switz is up by one but Fern just went in. Fern will make it all better.

This is our little breakfast nook in the corner of the living room- we have another table in teh kitchen but this is a better table- more space, larger table and more light.
So that's the ground floor- up the stairs for the second level.

I had a lovely sized bathroom, perfect for all the junk that I collect over the years- lotions, creams, hair products, shampoos, soaps, etc. My favorite part was the bathtub- perfect for warming up after being out on a long day in the rain.

The hallway leading to Roni's room (standing at the guest room and my room). We're not going into Roni's room. You really don't want to see it. Trust me on that one.

And finally, my sanctuary for the last few months- my room. Clearly pictures are important for me. See if you can spot yourselves :) I love how I used the windowsill as a bookshelf since I didn't have anything else. And of course, my favorite thing is my big orange Good Riddance poster. Always made me smile.

And there you have it- 50 Lark Hill, it all its glory. I'll try and take better pictures with my camera later today but for now, hope you enjoyed the tour.

World Cup!

World Cup 2010! Finally here! I was excited for our "party" on Saturday night but there was a lot to do on Saturday morning. The house was a mess, there was a lot of food to prepare and, as I was unloading teh dishwasher, mugs to hunt down. I found them all in Roni's room- please enjoy the tower of mugs and cups that I found in her room since who knows how long. If you are ever missing a mug, ask Roni if she knows where it is. She probably does.I also had a bunch of food to prepare- I had gotten about 35 quid worth of veggies and fruit- see the spread below. I made three veggie platters, a huge bowl of strawberries, huge bowl of grapes and a huge bowl of melon. I also was planning on slicing some apples but in the end decided against it since they tend to get brown and I didn't want to put any lemon juice on them.
Here are my yummy veggie platters- delicious! And I only cut my finger once and it was while de-rinding melon.

In the end we had about 25 people over and nearly an even divide between American and English fans. Roni's friend Kim arrived first with her friend Simon and he was the ONLY Englishman for quite a while but eventually, the rest of teh team showed up, with crosses on their faces, hats, shirts, etc. Meanwhile, we had Ian- or Chuck Thunder- as our mascot. He showed up in jorts (jean shorts), cowboy boots, aviators, and a t-shirt with the American starting line-up. He got a few wrong so we had to update his shirt later.

It was a decent match- second half was kind of rubbish but to have the house full of fans, cheering, shouting, egging each other on- it made for a great atmosphere. Everyone was nice and respectful and no fights broke out, which was lovely. We also had masive amount of food- everyone brought their own drinks to share- and then we had mac and cheese, hamburgers, brisket, fruits and veg, cake, cookies, enough leftovers for the next two days. Definite merriment took place.

I had to teach the following morning so I went to bed on the early side but the festivities went on until past-midnight (hopefully our neighbors still like us). We still have Neal's TV so our house has become World Cup central. If there's a match you want to see, our house is always open. As I speak right now (or write, I guess), we're watching Spain v. Switzerland. Viva Espana.

Despite a match that wasn't great, it was a great night! Hope the World Cup continues to get better!
