All (most) thanks to Netflix. Some thanks to the movie theatre.
The King's Speech- loved it. Mostly because I LOVE COLIN FIRTH (and Jim Broadbent and John Hurt but we already knew that...). We saw this today at the Westpark Theatre and Shiri and I were the only ones (other than two folk) under 40. At least. But back to the movie. I really enjoyed it- but wasn't a fan when "Bertie" and Lionel weren't together onscreen. They had great chemistry, I thought, and I loved how Lionel had a great upper hand against Bertie. I also wanted more Helena Bonham Carter. Definitely made me tear up at the end, when I wasn't dying with laughter at some of the quippy British humour. Highly recommended.
Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader- if this were just a normal movie, I'd probably enjoy it. There was a good story, good characters, mystery, intrigue, laughter, etc. However, as an adaptation of the classic book, not a huge fan. Some parts were great- Will Poulter as Eustace was spot on, just amazing. And I did love Skander Keynes because Edmund has always been my favourite character. However, not a fan of what they did with the story. I didn't like that whole green fog deal. Abba kept whispering that it must be the Death Eaters. True- it was too similar to some Harry Potter things. I also wasn't a fan of the added dad and daughter to the Dawn Treader. There's something very iconic about Lucy being the only female on the ship and that was lost with the addition of Gale or whatever her name was. Oh, and where did Ben Barnes' accent go? The minotaur was quite funny though, as was Reepicheep. Best Bro-mance ever between him and Dragon Eustace. Didn't like the Dragon part either- I thought that the part where he becomes a boy again with the help of Aslan was trivialized. I was hoping for it to be deeper. In conclusion, watch the BBC version, it's better.
The Lost Boys- This explains SO much about the 80's. And I will never look at Richard Gilmore and Jack Bauer the same again. And even though the movie is like 20 years old and I really haven't seen any other of his movies, I got sad watching Cory Haim. And wow was Corey Feldman's voice low!
Babes in Toyland- wow, I haven't watched this movie since Caitlin Johanssen's house back in like 1993. And now I know why. Two words. Keanu Reeves. He sucked as an actor back in the day and hasn't gotten any better. Also, Drew Barrymore was pretty interesting to watch. Anyone else concerned that Keanu was spending too much time singing the Cincinnati song and making eyes at Mary than driving properly in the snow? No wonder Lisa went flying out of the back of the car. Also.... how did the Toyland folk know the Cincinnati song? Highly recommended if you want a good time making fun of things.
