Don't you just love those days where things just continually go well? I had one of those on Saturday, minus a little hiccup in the middle....
It started out bright and sunny and I drove into town to wander the market with Tessa. I ended up being a little bit late because I was listening to this fantastic story on Weekend Edition about a deaf rapper from Detroit releasing a CD and DVD. It was absolutely afscinating. Check it out on npr.com/weekendedtion. Scott Simon's interview was so great and I have to find some time to youtube this guy.
The market was glorious, as usual. I love how week in and week out, the market doesn't change but I still will go wander week in and week out. We picked up some produce, sampled the delicious sugar almonds (my favorite), talked about how Clint Eastwood is a wonderful actor and director but bat**** cray-cray politically. We even popped into Lux where I got a super cute skirt and some sweet heels that I think don't fit me anymore.... I may have to re-sell them or bring them back. They were a little tight when I tried them on but now won't even fit. I guess my feet have swollen.... Anyway, it was lovely to spend time with her.
I then headed up to Camel's Back where I met up with Abbey who had just run 20 miles because she's crazy. We wandered the foothills, chatted and caught-up on life and enjoyed the slightly smokey trails. Always have a great time when catching up with her. I stayed at Camel's Back for the next few hours, lying on the dinosaur blanket as I read my allotted chapters of "Pity of War" but then got to finish "Lost in a Good Book". Becky eventually joined me and we headed back out into the foothills, going up to Hulls Gulch past 8th Street until the smoky conditions got too bad and we headed back down to some flatter ground. It was great to chat with her as well.
I headed up to the Bench to pick up Aly and we swung by Albertson's to pick up some fruit and beer for the BBQ at Casa KIL. I randomly ran into Mr. Burridge, who I had student taught under at TImberline my first semester. It was totally random but it was wonderful to see him and have a quick catch-up chat. We got back out to my car and here's where the stress began.... my car didn't start.... Awesome. Someone let us borrow jumper cables and we tried to jump it but the guy helping us thought it might be the starter. Awesome. So I called AAA and Phil showed up quite quickly, which was lovely. He got us towed to Al's Car Care, right down the street. Kelsey and Brad arrived to drive us to their house so we could get the BBQ started. I locked the car, put them into the envelope and into the drop box... and then realized my house keys were still in the car. Even more awesome. So we called AAA AGAIN and half an hour later, the locksmith came to unlock my car and get my keys. Thank goodness for AAA, I must say.
So, despite all of that, the rest of the night was wonderful. Regan was OK driving herself out, Greg came out and eventually Joanna and Steve and Katie and Chris came out as well. Aly, Brad, Kelsey and I had delicious turkey burgers and corn, I had cut up some fruit, we had wine and beer. We laughed at Kelsey and Brad's teeny-tiny lantern and laughed at Greg's naked fly-fishing story. It was such a superb way to finish off a day that had been so good with one tiny little snafu.
