And I'm off!

Yesterday I had a looooong day of traveling.... up early, flight to Midway Airport in Chicago, a two-hour delay and then a drive into the city from Newark Airport. But I made it all in one piece, Judith and Sasha came to pick me up at the airport and we got back safe and sound.

This morning, I had a little time to sleep in and then headed out to take on the city. I took the subway down to Washington Square Park with the huge arch copied from France and frequently shown in Friends episodes. It was a pretty hazy morning and not incredibly hot yet, which was nice. This would not be the case for the whole day though. I walked north to Union Square Park and wandered through the small Farmer's Market they had there. I bought a few pieces of Maple Sugar candy from Vermont- a little token of my childhood. It reminded me of a smaller version of the first market I went to in Amsterdam.

I then headed south on Broadway, spent some time in the Strand, one of the most famous bookstores in New York City. There were so many incredible books and I wrote so many names down. I was good though and didn't buy a single one, even from the dollar stands outside. I loved looking at the beautiful architecture of the city and all the bizarre sculptures and wall decorations that just seem to come out of nowhere. Love the history of this crazy city, especially downtown. I'm looking forward to reading "New York" by Edward Rutherfurd when I get back to Idaho.

After a late lunch of pita, humus and carrots while reading in Washington Square Park, I spent a little bit of time, after walking through the West Village and Tribeca (the Triangle Below Canal Street) heading all the way down Canal Street past all the shops full of knock off goodies (this time reminded me of Oxford Street in London) to China Town and Little Italy. I loved the smells of all the Italian food. Finally, with feet aching, I headed back to the subway off 14th and 7th. I was lucky enough to get a seat on the subway but when we arrived at the station, I emerged to find it pouring rain! Luckily, it felt nice after sweating all day and it was only half a block to the apartment.

Too tired and not wanting to get wet, we ordered Chinese and Thai food in to eat together. Dinner table conversation was top notch- chemistry and plastic surgery and weird implantations :) Judith, Sasha and I are now sitting and watching Source Code. Jake Gyllenhaal is quite lovely to look at. Tomorrow we're trying to get tickets for Jersey Boys and hopefully go to Eataly and the Met and maybe High Line? Who knows... the possibilities are endless! The world is my oyster.
